CAIRO – 25 March 2026: The Egyptian Cabinet's Media Center issued a statement via its official social media platforms on Wednesday to clarify several rumors circulating online.
The denied reports included claims of a government-imposed curfew on public roads from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, granting state and private sector employees Thursday as a day off, and a 15-day extension of school and university suspensions starting March 29.
The Media Center emphasized that reports of an impending curfew are entirely false. It stressed that no government decrees have been issued regarding road restrictions and that traffic across public thoroughfares continues to proceed normally. The center described these rumors as deliberate attempts to incite public confusion.
Regarding the alleged holiday for state and private sector employees on Thursday, the statement confirmed that no such official decision exists and that the circulating reports are incorrect.
Addressing the rumored 15-day extension of academic suspensions starting March 29, the Media Center consulted with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, as well as the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Both ministries confirmed that the news currently being circulated actually dates back to 2020. They emphasized that the claims are baseless and that no new decisions have been made to suspend classes.
The ministries further stated that the educational process in schools, universities, and institutes nationwide is proceeding according to the established academic calendar for the current year.
The Media Center urged citizens not to be misled by fabricated news on social media and stressed the importance of verifying information through official channels.
The statement noted that those spreading the rumors have been using the logos of various reputable websites and television channels to lend them a false sense of authority; however, these outlets have already denied any involvement with the claims.
