CAIRO – 18 February 2026: Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, has extended his congratulations to Muslims in Egypt and across the Arab and Islamic world on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

He emphasized that the overlap of Christian and Muslim fasting periods this year is a "divine blessing" that strengthens the spirit of national unity.

Speaking during his weekly sermon at the Papal Headquarters in St. Mark's Cathedral in Abbassia, Pope Tawadros II remarked that one of the unique blessings of this year is that "all Egyptians are fasting." With Christians having begun their fast on Monday and Muslims set to begin Ramadan on Thursday, the Pope noted that the coincidence reflects a "beautiful image of spiritual unity" within the Egyptian people.

The Pope further highlighted that Ramadan represents a blessed period for all Egyptians, not only Muslims. He pointed to the special spiritual atmosphere that permeates society during the month, encouraging the values of mercy, charity, and tolerance.
