CAIRO – 30 July 2017: Free Egyptian Party has announced its support to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to run for the second term.
“In respect to our program, we choose to stand by Sisi because he is a man who tells truth to his people and always fulfils achievements,” the party chairperson Essam Khalil said during an event organized for sporting President Sisi on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Khalil told al-Shorouk newspaper that the party is writing a program to mobilize support to President Sisi nationwide.
Founded in 2011 by telecom tycoon Naguib Sawiris after the January 25 Revolution, the Free Egyptians Party is a centre/centre-right party that holds 65 of 596 seats in the Egyptian House of Representatives, more than any other party.
Speaking about presidential election in the third national Youth conference, President Sisi said that “he will not stay in the office, if people reject his presence.” He also stated the same answers in his interview with CNN in September 2016.
The 2018 presidential election is due to start in February and end in May. It will be the third presidential election since the January 25 Revolution in 2011.
