CAIRO – 29 July 2017: Doha-based Al Jazeera Channel has used Jewish names in describing Palestinian sites during its media coverage of the ongoing violations by the Israeli authorities in Occupied Palestine.

Al Jazeera called Bilal Ibn Rabah Mosque as Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem, according to the official Twitter account of the Qatari-owned satellite channel on Friday.

On November 3, 2016, Israel froze cooperation with UNESCO after approving a resolution admitting Bilal Ibn Rabah Mosque as a Muslim heritage site, not a Jewish one allegedly known as Rachel’s Tomb.

The official text of the U.N. cultural agency’s resolution slammed Israel, urging them to refer to holy sites in Jerusalem by Muslim names only.

UNESCO requested the Israeli authorities to remove some Palestinian sites from its national heritage list and called on the Israeli authorities to act in accordance with that decision.

UNESCO’s resolution on “Occupied Palestine” was approved at committee stage by 24 votes to 6, with 26 abstentions, in Paris on October 13, 2016. The resolution was approved on November 3 by UNESCO’s Executive Board.
