CAIRO – 22 February 2025: Israeli sources stated that the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, originally scheduled for Saturday under the Gaza ceasefire agreement, has been postponed pending a decision from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, AFP reported.

More than 600 Palestinians are set to be released from Israeli jails tonight as part of the seventh swap, which saw Hamas freeing today six Israeli captives from Gaza, namely Omer Shem Tov, Eliya Cohen, Omer Wenkert, Hisham al-Sayed, Tal Shoham and Avera Mengistu.

An Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Netanyahu will hold a security consultation this evening.

A second source indicated that a decision regarding the delay in releasing the prisoners will be made following the security meeting, determining the next steps in the ceasefire agreement.

Israeli officials reportedly informed their Palestinian counterparts in the West Bank that the prisoners will be postponed 8 PM today.
