Qatar funds terrorism after its wealth fails to give it prestige

CAIRO – 26 July 2017: Although Qatar is a tiny Gulf country with great financial resources that could have enabled it to lead a great role internationally, its resources did not help it in this respect, expert on international relations and national security Abdel-Moniem el-Mashat said on Tuesday.

Addressing a session on ”Mechanisms to face the making of a failed state” held within the 4th National Youth Conference in Alexandria, Mashat noted that Qatar tried to have a leading role by funding terrorism groups to defeat other countries and threaten security in the Middle East.

The economic abilities of a country do not mean its wealth or poverty, but the coherence of its economy, its people's productivity, its competitive edge and the safety of its infrastructure, Mashat clarified.

Though a rich country, Qatar’s wealth has not created for it any position among the international regimes, Mashat added.

In Egypt, for instance the major national projects in Egypt are the basic infrastructure, especially the road network, which is designed to link all neighborhoods across the country, according to Mashat.

He further noted that the total area of the U.S. is nearly equal to that of the Arab World altogether, and what connects it is it massive roads’ network.

The Arab quartet added three Yemeni and six Libyan associations to their terrorist list, stressing that "these new measures come within the framework of monitoring the counter terrorism approach that the four Arab nations determined," according to a statement issued by the Arab quartet on Tuesday.

Three Qataris, three Yemenis, two Libyans and one Kuwaiti national have been added to the terrorist list on charges of promoting extremism and terrorist activities, the statement added.

The Kuwaiti terrorist, according to the Arab quartet statement, is accused of collecting funds to Al-Nusra Front in Syria.
