Russia praises Egypt, Qatar for Gaza ceasefire

CAIRO – 4 February 2025: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has commended Egypt and Qatar for their crucial role in brokering a recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza. In a statement, Lavrov emphasized the significant contributions of these countries in facilitating the agreement and mitigating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Lavrov expressed deep concern over the high civilian casualty count in Gaza, stating that the number of deaths far exceeded those in the decade-long Ukraine conflict. He highlighted the need for a lasting peace and called for an end to the violence.

The Russian foreign minister also expressed concerns regarding Israel's alleged plans for the West Bank, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
