CAIRO – 26 July 2017: South Cairo Court upheld on Tuesday the court ruling issued in 2014 by Cairo Regional Center for International Commercial Arbitration to fine satirical anchor Bassem Youssef LE 100 million ($5.5 million) for breaching his contract with CBC TV Network.

CBC Television network sued Youssef over breaching the contract and suspending his show which was broadcasted on CBC TV channel in 2013.

CBC suspended Youssef's show live on air following his mockery of the, then army chief president, Sisi’s supporters and then publicly dissociated itself from Youssef’s “Al bernameg” whose production company “QSoft Ltd”, in response, decided to end contract with CBC.

Bassem Youssef is a popular Egyptian satirist, TV host and columnist.

Originally a cardiac surgeon, Youssef began his onscreen career on March 8, 2011 with the B+ Show, which was uploaded to his YouTube channel.

In 2013, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
