CAIRO – 18 January 2025: Egypt has opened the registration for doctors who wish to volunteer to treat the wounded and injured as a result of the Israeli aggression inside the Gaza Strip, announced Head of the Egyptian Doctors Syndicate Osama Abdel-Hay on Sunday.

“This initiative is part of the effort to compile lists of the required medical specialties, in line with the humanitarian and medical responsibilities that Egyptian doctors bear in supporting their Palestinian brothers,” he said in a press statement.

Dr. Abdel-Hay received a phone call from the Palestinian Minister of Health Majed Ramadan on Friday. The Palestinian Minister of Health provided an update on the situation of Gaza's health sector.

During the call, Ramadan informed Dr. Abdel-Hay that the Palestinian Ministry would send the Egyptian Syndicate a list of urgent medical specialties required for the ongoing crisis.

The Egyptian official explained that the Syndicate is coordinating with the Egyptian Red Crescent and the government to mobilize the necessary medical teams for Gaza's health sector.

He noted that more than 2,000 are ready to volunteer and enter Gaza to treat the wounded.

He emphasized that the health sector in Gaza requires a wide range of medical specialties, with particular priority given to anesthesia, surgery, orthopedics, and plastic surgery.

Dr. Abdel-Hay stressed that the Syndicate is closely monitoring the medical situation in Gaza and will do the best to provide essential medical assistance, despite the challenging conditions the sector is currently facing.

The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and Israel will come into force at 8:30 a.m. (Gaza’s local time) on Sunday, January 19, said Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesman Majed al Ansari on his X account on Satutday.

The ceasefire agreement was announced on January 15 to halt war in Gaza after nearly 15 months of suffering and violence that led to the killing of more than 46,788 Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation forces. The agreement was reached after tireless efforts exerted by the Egyptian, American, and Qatari mediation.

Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy directed the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) to intensify efforts to deliver further amounts of humanitarian aid to Gaza in coordination with Egyptian state authorities.

Sources told Egypt Today that 1,000 truckloads are ready to move from Arish to enter Gaza when the ceasefire starts.

Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have launched hundreds of airstrikes and artillery shelling against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, committing atrocities across various parts of the Strip. These include massacres against civilians and horrific acts in areas of military incursion. The situation is further exacerbated by a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, driven by the ongoing siege and the displacement of more than 90% of Gaza's population.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza on January 16, 2025, the death toll of the Palestinians due to the Israeli genocidal bombings reached 46,788 martyrs and 110,453 injured since October 7, 2023.

The Ministry said previously that that a total of 4,500 Palestinians suffer from amputations of upper or lower limbs in the Strip since the beginning of the war, including about 800 children and 540 women.

Meanwhile, Israeli army announced on January 13, 2025 that 840 soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the war, 405 of them since the beginning of the ground offensive in Gaza. Additionally, 2566 officers and soldiers have been injured since the beginning of the ground operation in Gaza, including 495 seriously injured. A total of 5617 officers and soldiers have been injured since the beginning of the war, including 833 seriously injured.
