CAIRO – 25 July 2017: Luxor Governor Mohamed Badr ordered officials and owners of non-working cruise ships on Monday to be removed from the Nile Corniche Harbor. The cruise ships are to be moved to different locations upon the Ministry of Tourism’s decision to develop the harbor.

If the cruise ships are not removed their licenses will be revoked. Badr also assigned the general secretary of the governorate to keep record and follow-up with the working ones, according to El Masry El Youm. The governor also formed a committee to check on the maintenance and licenses of those ships and validity dates. The committee is taking the necessary measures against violators.

A technical team would be deployed to move non-working cruise ships to other places. The governor is launching a campaign to shut off unlicensed harbors, and to force the owners of unlicensed ships to legalize their work in the tourism sector.

As El Masry El Youm reported, the governor stressed the importance of designating the distances between the ships and the quay in order to facilitate the entry and exit easily for tourists.

Cruise ships are very popular in Luxor and Aswan. Tourists typically use them for one week. They visit archeological sites and temples in both cities and throughout the surrounding areas.
