CAIRO – 15 January 2025: Upon the directives of President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met Wednesday in Port Sudan Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fatah al-Burhan.
The minister affirmed that Egypt would continue deploying tremendous efforts to achieve stability in Sudan, expressing support to the country's stability, security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He also added that Egypt backs Sudan to resume its membership in the African Union (AU), as it was suspended in 2021.
In a related context, Minister Abdelatty welcomed the decisions of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council on accelerating the pace of humanitarian aid delivery. He equally displayed the facilitations offered to the displaced Sudanese in Egypt until their safe return to their homeland after security and stability are reinstated.
On his side, General Burhan expressed appreciation for the care provided to Sudanese citizens who sought refuge in Egypt, and commended holding the high school finals for Sudanese students - whose number exceeded 28,000 in the country last year.
The Egyptian minister's visit comes following the recapture of Wad Madani, the capital of the key state of Al Jazeera, by the Sudanese army, as it was seized by the Rapid Support Force (RSF) militia in December 2023 after the war had broken out between the two parties in April of the same year. The visit is the second since the outbreak of the war, as the first took place in December 2024.
