CAIRO – 14 January 2025: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States, Egypt and Qatar have worked on a final proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and that a final agreement in Gaza could be reached during the last days of the current US administration or after January 20 based on the plan announced by President Joe Biden.

He noted that the final decision is now between Hamas’s hands.

During delivering his remarks at the Atlantic Council on Tuesday, Blinken said that Hamas's military capabilities and ability to rule the Gaza Strip were undermined after October 7.

He added that the balance of power in the Middle East is changing rapidly without Hamas, explaining that, ‘Civilians in the Gaza Strip are suffering from war and stuck in a conflict that has nothing to do with them.’

He stated that President Biden has taken steps to prevent the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East, adding that many things have changed in the Middle East, but the situation is still dangerous.

He noted that Gaza will not be ruled again by Hamas, and that they aim to formulate a new reality in the Middle East region, stressing that there will be no forced displacement of Palestinians to any place and that they are working with partners in the region to advance the peace process.
