CAIRO – 12 January 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty participated Sunday in the Arab-European Ministerial Meeting on Syria hosted in Riyadh, and that was followed by a meeting between the Arab foreign ministers and Turkish counterparts.
Minister Abdelatty presented the Egyptian stance advocating for preserving the country's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and reinstating the capabilities of its state institutions. He also called for an inclusive political process that is not subjected to any foreign interference in order to achieve a successful transition.
In a related context, the Egyptian minister stressed the importance of concerting efforts among regional and international parties to combat terrorism, so that Syria would not foster terrorist elements, which in turn, could compose a threat or provocation to any of the region's countries. He equally underscored that the international community must exert efforts to inhibit rendering Syria a menace to the stability of the Middle East or a hub for terrorist organizations.
Minister Abdelatty condemned the Israeli penetration of the buffer zone in Syria, and occupation of Syrian territories, noting Egypt's rejection of the breach of the 1974 non-disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel. He similarly condemned the Israeli raids that targeted the Syrian army's infrastructure and military capabilities.
