CAIRO - 11 January 2025: Egypt's Elderly Rights Care Law has specified exemptions for the elderly in different services.

Article 27 of the Elderly Rights Care Law stipulates that the elderly are granted a partial exemption from the cost of using public transportation fully owned by the state, provided that the competent ministry bears the value of the exemption from the cost of using transportation, all in accordance with the controls specified by the executive regulations of this law.

Article 28 also obliges the state to provide a partial exemption for the elderly from subscription fees in sports bodies, cultural centers, theaters, some museums and archaeological sites owned by the state without incurring any burdens on the general budget, in the manner specified by the executive regulations.

Article 29 exempts the elderly from all taxes, fees and expenses of any kind imposed on each of the following:

1- Licenses to establish any building designated for housing or sheltering the elderly in social institutions for the care of the elderly, provided that the value of taxes and fees is paid, in addition to the value of the return according to the price announced by the Central Bank in the event of changing the activity or disposing of the property or building for use other than serving the elderly before ten years have passed from the date of exemption.

2- Licenses to modify or renovate an existing building designated for the residence or shelter of the elderly in social institutions for the care of the elderly. The executive regulations shall specify the rules, controls and procedures for granting the exemption in each of the two previous cases, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.
