CAIRO – 10 January 2025: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held phone conversations with his counterparts from Kenya, Guinea-Bissau, and the Republic of the Congo on Thursday, January 9, 2025, to discuss ways to enhance security and stability in the East African region. These calls are part of Egypt's broader diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and promote regional cooperation, according to statements from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Egypt-Kenya Relations

Abdelatty spoke with Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Kenya. Their conversation focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Kenya. Both ministers emphasized the long-standing historical ties between the two nations and the mutual respect between their leaderships. They also discussed ways to further deepen relations across various sectors to benefit the two countries and their peoples.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional issues of common interest, particularly enhancing security and stability in East Africa. They underscored the importance of continued coordination within regional and international forums to promote the interests of the African continent. Furthermore, they agreed to support each other’s nominations for regional and international positions that align with their shared priorities.

Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Kenya in its pursuit of stability, development, and prosperity. He highlighted the importance of expanding economic and investment cooperation between the two nations and increasing the volume of bilateral trade. He also stressed the need to elevate their relations to reflect the significant roles both countries play on the African stage.

Egypt-Congo Relations

On the same day, Abdelatty held a phone call with Jean-Claude Gakosso, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Congo. The two ministers discussed the potential for expanding cooperation between their countries, particularly in areas such as economic development and sustainable projects.

Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s readiness to offer technical expertise and support to Congo in its development initiatives. He also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to strengthening joint African action and fostering growth across the continent.

The conversation also covered regional developments, with both sides agreeing on the importance of working together to ensure the security and stability of Africa. They committed to intensifying coordination and deepening bilateral relations to achieve mutual interests, while also collaborating in regional and international forums to address shared challenges.

Egypt-Guinea-Bissau Relations

Later the same day, Abdelatty spoke with Carlos Pinto Pereira, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Communities of Guinea-Bissau. The two ministers discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties, particularly in the fields of economic development, trade, and investment. They also exchanged views on a number of regional issues, stressing the need for joint action to support the broader interests of the African continent.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of supporting Africa’s development efforts, fostering economic integration across the continent, and strengthening cooperation to tackle the current economic, developmental, and security challenges. They also agreed to support each other's candidacies for regional and international positions where possible.
