CAIRO – 10 January 2025: Several major wildfires are raging in Los Angeles County, resulting in at least 10 fatalities.

However, officials warn that the actual toll may remain unclear until it is safe for investigators to access affected neighborhoods, CNN reported.

Tens of thousands of residents have been impacted by evacuation orders since the fires began.

Firefighters have made progress as the Santa Ana winds weakened, but gusts picked up across the region as the day progressed.

Officials have also launched a major response to a new fire near the border of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, which has prompted additional evacuations.

Residents are facing hazardous conditions, including polluted air.

As many as 10,000 structures have been destroyed, primarily between the coastal Palisades Fire—now the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles County history—and the Eaton Fire, which has devastated nearby communities.

Police have arrested at least 20 people for looting homes evacuated by residents escaping the blazes, media reports quoted L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger as saying.
