Egypt’s FM stresses importance of ending presidential vacuum in Lebanon

CAIRO – 8 January 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdel Aati made a phone call on Wednesday, with Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament.

Minister Abdel Aati conveyed the directives of President Abdel Fattah al Sisi to provide all forms of support to brotherly Lebanon, in light of the important historical turning point it is currently going through.

In light of the upcoming session of the Lebanese Parliament to elect a new president, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to reach a Lebanese consensus with pure national ownership and without external dictates to end the presidential vacuum in Lebanon, and elect a Lebanese president who is agreed upon and who can lead Lebanon to confront internal and regional challenges and risks, stressing that Egypt will continue to provide all forms of support to Lebanon.

For his part, Berri expressed his deep appreciation to President Sisi for his continuous support for Lebanon on the political and humanitarian levels, appreciating Egypt's standing by Lebanon at this critical stage.

 He also asked to convey his greetings and appreciation to the President, the government and the Egyptian people for their support to Lebanon and its people in light of the difficult circumstances they are going through.
