President Sisi, Cypriot counterpart witness signing 7 MoUs between Egypt and Cyprus

CAIRO – 8 January 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, his Cypriot counterpart and the Greek Prime Minister witnessed, Wednesday the signing of 7 memorandums of understanding (MoU) between Egypt and Cyprus, on the sidelines of the Egyptian-Cypriot-Greek tripartite summit held in Cairo.

These memoranda included cooperation in the fields of higher education and scientific research, education, information and communications technology. Empowering women in the tourism sector, supporting women in the Women's Complaints Office, developing aquatic life, managing water resources, early warning of nuclear accidents and cooperation in the field of nuclear safety.

The memoranda of understanding were signed by Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati and his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Wednesday with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, as part of the second meeting of the Joint Higher Governmental Committee between Egypt and Cyprus.

Leaders of Egypt, Cyprus and Greece have agreed on the necessity to develop joint energy projects as they held the 10th trilateral cooperation mechanism summit in Cairo on Wednesday.

“The energy file was strongly present in our talks today,” President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said in a joint press conference with Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus following their meeting.

Sisi said they agreed on the need for developing joint projects in renewable energy, electrical interconnection, natural gas transportation, and power linkage infrastructure enhancement.

These projects aim to achieve regional integration in this sector and effectively ensure international energy security, which has suffered turbulence amidst latest global crises, the Egyptian president added.

Meanwhile, Sisi unveiled the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) both at the bilateral level between Egypt and Cyprus as well as at the trilateral level along with Greece.

“I stress the need for effective implementation of these agreements and MoUs, due to their common economic benefits,” Sisi said.
