CAIRO – 2 January 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty received Thursday UN National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell to exchange views on regional and international issues of joint concern.
Regarding the Palestinian Cause, Minister Abdelatty presented the efforts deployed by Egypt to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza Strip, stressing the necessity of the supply of humanitarian aid, and ending "the systematic Israeli violations against Palestinians." He equally asserted the salience of the two-state solution, establishing a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, having as capital Eastern Jerusalem.
As for Syria, the minister clarified the pillars of the Egyptian stance on the crisis, noting that Egypt is keen on preserving the country's state institutions, security, and territorial integrity. He equally added that the political transition process must be inclusive, and clear of any foreign interference.
Speaking of Sudan, the Egyptian minister stipulated the importance of a ceasefire, humanitarian aid delivery, and empowerment of state institutions. In a different context, the talks also tackled expanding relations in the political and economic realms.
