CAIRO – 30 December 2024: Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting to discuss imposing harsher penalties on those who establish unlicensed rehab centers for drug addiction treatment.
During the meeting that convened at the Ministry’s headquarters in the new administrative capital, Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of intensifying inspection campaigns on unlicensed facilities, which included 330 facilities during the past period.
He also pointed out that the Ministry had taken strict legal measures, including issuance of warnings and closure of violating facilities, to ensure patient safety and the quality of medical services provided.
Additionally, the Minister discussed amendments to Law No. 71 on Mental Health Patient Rights Care Law. He directed to enhance the role of the National Council for Mental Health in spreading awareness of mental health and combating the social stigma associated with it.
Abdel Ghaffar also ordered to organize awareness events including media campaigns and community seminars.
He pointed out that the meeting also discussed the licensing of mental health facilities within the automated medical licensing system, with the aim of achieving governance in issuing licenses and ensuring the provision of health services from licensed facilities.
