Egypt intensifies security measures ahead of Christmas celebrations

CAIRO - 30 December 2024: Egyptian Ministry of Interior reviewed the security plans ahead of the celebrations of the New Year, New Year’s Eve and other Coptic Christian festivals. 

 

According to a statement issued by the Ministry, General Mahmoud Tawfik, the Minister of Interior, held a meeting with a number assistants to him and several security leaders via video conference on Monday. 

 

The plan includes the deployment of forces and patrols on the highways, and road axes, in a way that contributes to the speed of security response, movement and containing any emergency matters. 

 

The statement added that the Minister praised efforts exerted by the police personnel across the nation as the crime rate declined nationwide.

 

The Minister directed the police to be on alert during the coming period, to take the highest levels of caution and vigilance, especially in areas surrounding important and vital facilities, tourist facilities and places of worship.

 

Additionally, the Minister stressed the importance of continuing to monitor and deal with rumours, lies and misleading news used by extremist groups.
