Spanish foreign minister assures Madrid’s support for Egypt’s candidate to UNESCO Director-General

CAIRO – 27 December 2024:  Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Aati stressed in a phone call with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares on Friday, the importance of strategic relationship between Cairo and Madrid.

During the call, Albares referred to his meeting last month in Madrid with Egypt’s candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO Khaled El-Enany, whose candidacy was supported by both the African Union and the Arab League.

Albares assured the Egyptian Foreign Minister of Spain's full support for El Enany's candidacy.

The two ministers also stressed the importance of the strategic relationship between Egypt and Spain, and expressed their strong desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially in light of the pressing challenges facing the international community.

They discussed the latest developments in the region, including Syria and Gaza. Also, minister Abdel Aati referred to Egypt's ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
