Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty meets with Ambassador Ado Elhadji Abou, the CEN-SAD Executive Secretary in Chad – Cabinet

CAIRO – 27 December 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty has underlined Egypt’s commitment to bolstering joint efforts with the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), urging enhanced regional cooperation to face common challenges.

In a meeting with Ambassador Ado Elhadji Abou, the CEN-SAD Executive Secretary in Chad, Abdelatty highlighted the importance of fostering regional cooperation to address shared challenges, particularly in combating terrorism, illegal migration, and building the security capacities of member states.

The foreign minister stressed the need to activate the role of the CEN-SAD, hosted in Cairo, so that it can fulfill its role in enhancing the capacities of member states in counterterrorism.

He underlined the significance of the CEN-SAD role in unifying efforts to confront security threats in the region, with a focus on supporting youth rehabilitation programs and combating extremist ideologies.

Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's readiness to provide technical and logistical support to the CEN-SAD, while helping in developing a comprehensive plan for financial and administrative reform to enhance its role.

The meeting, aimed at enhancing development and peace endeavors in the Sahel-Saharan region, was part of Abdelatty’s visit to the Chadian capital, N'Djamena.

During his visit, Abdelatty held political talks with Abderaman Koulamallah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad and International Cooperation.

Abdelatty, during the meeting, called for boosting trade exchange between the two countries and exploring available opportunities to increase their investments.

The foreign minister accompanied a delegation comprising representatives of major Egyptian companies to discuss opportunities for cooperation in various sectors, most notably infrastructure, energy and agriculture.

Abdelatty also held a meeting with Aziz Mahamat Saleh, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, and made a visit to the Alexandria University branch in the Chadian capital.
