CAIRO – 26 December 2024:  Egypt has strongly condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli Minister of National Security, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police, expressing its complete rejection of this ‘provocative step’.

Egypt also warned against the extremist actions that constitute a flagrant and reprehensible violation of the historical and legal status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and what these unacceptable practices represent in terms of disdain and incitement of the feelings of Muslims around the world.

Egypt called on Israel to abide by its obligations as an occupying state and stressed the need to respect the status of Al-Aqsa Mosque as a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.

Egypt affirmed the need for the international community, headed by the Security Council, to take decisive measures against these actions and to stop these violations that represent a practical rejection of opportunities for peaceful coexistence, stressing the need to reach a just, permanent and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, and in a manner that achieves the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people.
