CAIRO – 21 December 2024: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met with Khaled El-Enany, former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and the Egyptian candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO on Friday to discuss the future plan for the nomination campaign that was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The meeting was attended by Minister Plenipotentiary Wael Abdel Wahab, Director of the nomination campaign, said the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf in a statement on Saturday.

 

The meeting touched on the international support after France and Brazil officially announced their support for the Egyptian candidate. In addition to a large group of other countries that had previously supported the Egyptian nomination, which was previously unanimously approved by the Executive Council of the African Union at its forty-fourth session last February, and by the Arab Summit at its thirty-third session held last May.

 

El-Enany reviewed the results of the intensive tours recently organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which included several countries in the continents of Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa, during which he met Dr. Al-Anani met with senior officials to listen to the priorities of different countries in UNESCO's fields of work.

 

He also reviewed the features of his electoral vision, which is scheduled to be officially submitted to the organization during March 2025, in preparation for the elections that will be held in October 2025. 

 

The official spokesman added that El-Anany thanked all state agencies, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Delegation of Egypt to UNESCO, as well as all Egyptian embassies, for the great effort made in the framework of the nomination.
