CAIRO – 19 December 2024: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the sidelines of the 11th summit of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) held in Cairo on Thursday.
The official spokesman for the Presidency stated that the meeting witnessed the President's emphasis on Lebanon's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting Egypt’s keenness to consolidate the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, and to fully implement Security Council Resolution 1701, and stressing the need to provide support to the Lebanese army to enable it to perform its duties in enhancing stability in brotherly Lebanon, and in a way that supports stability in the region.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, added that the President stressed Egypt's support for all Lebanese state institutions that are assuming critical responsibilities under difficult circumstances, and the President stressed Egypt's constant readiness to provide all possible support to relieve the brotherly Lebanese people and help the Lebanese state's agencies and institutions to perform their role to the fullest extent.
The meeting discussed regional situations, where Egyptian efforts to ceasefire in Gaza were reviewed as the nucleus for restoring regional stability.
The two countries' keenness on Syria's stability, the safety and security of its people and the unity of its territories was also emphasized. The two sides warned against the expansion of the circle of conflict, stressing the need for all parties to exercise wisdom and responsibility to restore regional peace.
