CAIRO – 19 December 2024: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the 11th summit of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) held in Cairo on Thursday.
The official spokesman for the Presidency stated that the meeting discussed ways to restore calm in the Palestinian territories, where Egyptian efforts to ceasefire and enforce humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip were reviewed, in a way that protects the Strip from the humanitarian tragedy it is facing and stops the bloodshed.
The meeting also discussed the situation in the West Bank, where both sides affirmed their rejection of the repeated Israeli violations in the West Bank, stressing that the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem are the land of the Palestinian state.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, added that President Sisi Egypt's continued tireless efforts to support the Palestinian people and establish an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The two presidents stressed their rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians or liquidate the Palestinian cause.
For his part, the Palestinian President appreciated the pivotal Egyptian efforts to ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, praising Egypt's historical role in supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
