CAIRO – 17 December 2024: The Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation announced on Tuesday that a bilateral air transport agreement was signed between Egypt and New Zealand to enhance mutual interests and cooperation in aviation.

 

The agreement was finalized after completing all official procedures. It was signed by Captain Amr El-Sharkawy, Head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, and New Zealand’s Ambassador to Egypt, Amy Laurenson. The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Hesham Abdel Basset, Head of Central Air Transport Administration; Captain Fouad Gowhar, General Manager of International Agreements at the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority; and Yousra Salama, Trade and Economic Policy Officer at the New Zealand Embassy.

 

The bilateral agreement aims to facilitate flight operations, enable code-sharing rights for airlines in both countries, and improve opportunities for commercial and investment cooperation. It will also provide travelers with a wider range of flight options, boosting connectivity and trade between Egypt and New Zealand.

 

Captain Amr El-Sharkawy expressed his delight at the agreement, highlighting it as a culmination of years of dedicated efforts. He emphasized that the partnership paves the way for deeper collaboration in civil aviation and aligns with the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation's strategy to foster trade and economic ties with international partners while promoting sustainable development in the aviation sector.

 

New Zealand’s Ambassador Amy Laurenson praised the significance of the agreement, describing it as a vital step to strengthen bilateral relations. She emphasized its role in enhancing air cargo services and facilitating air transport between the two nations.

 

This agreement marks a milestone in bolstering air transport cooperation, contributing to economic growth and fostering stronger trade and travel links between Egypt and New Zealand.
