Egyptian FM convenes with European ambassadors to discuss key areas of cooperation

CAIRO – 16 December 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty held Monday a periodic meeting with European ambassadors stressing the importance of the reflection of the strategic partnership agreement signed in March on political, economic, and trade relations.

 

In that context, the minister presented the reforms undertaken to support the private sector, make the business ecosystem attractive to foreign investments, localize certain industries, and offer incentives. He also highlighted "the current cooperation with international financial institutions to support the national economy," and displayed promising sectors such as energy and renewable energy.

 

In a related context, Minister Abdelatty further showcased that Egypt hosts millions of refugees, and migrants, which puts a strain on the country's economic capabilities, and thus, requires more support from European states. He also underscored Egypt's role in combating terrorism and extremism, not just through security measures but also through a socio-economic approach.

 

On the regional level, the minister gave an overview of the efforts deployed by Egypt to accomplish de-escalation, detailing the pillars of the country's stance on the conflicts in Gaza Strip, Syria, and Sudan. He noted that Egypt's foreign policy is rooted in backing the nation state concept, preserving state institutions, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and international law.
