CAIRO - 13 December 2024: Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly accompanied by Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, inaugurated the Abydos Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 560 megawatts.
 
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting the day before yesterday to follow up on efforts to provide the electricity sector's needs in preparation for next summer.
 
The meeting witnessed a review of the current status of efforts to provide the necessary needs required for the electricity sector from petroleum products, and the efforts of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to provide sufficient reserves of natural gas in order to ensure the continued operation of power stations.
 
The current status of efforts to increase the contribution of the percentage of renewable energy in the electricity mix, which will be pumped into the national grid until next summer, was presented, in light of the interest that the electricity and renewable energy sector pays to diversifying sources of electricity production and benefiting from Egypt's natural resources, especially new and renewable energy sources.
 
During the meeting, developments in the executive position of the electricity interconnection project between Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were reviewed, as the Prime Minister stressed the need to continue intensifying efforts to complete this huge project, and to adhere to the time plan in light of the directives of the political leadership, and the continuous follow-up of the Prime Minister.
