CAIRO – 12 December 2024: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the call focused on regional developments, particularly the situations in Gaza and Lebanon.
President El-Sisi and Iraq’s Prime Minister emphasized the crucial need for an urgent and immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to provide unfettered and unconditional access for humanitarian aid and relief into the sector.
They also underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, warning against the repercussions of continuing and escalating the conflict on the security and stability of the region and the resources of its peoples.
The call also touched on the situation in Syria and ways to restore security and stability to the country, in a manner that safeguards its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
President El-Sisi and Iraq’s Prime Minister reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the economic, trade, and investment sectors, to serve the development goals and aspirations of both nations for progress and prosperity. They agreed to maintain regular communication so as to follow-up on all issues of mutual interest.
