CAIRO – 11 December 2024: Residents of Cairo woke up this morning to thick fog, a rare occurrence since the onset of autumn in Egypt, with the meteorological authority predicting another foggy morning tomorrow.
As early as 6 AM, school buses, commuters heading to work, and travelers embarking on vacations found themselves enveloped in a blanket of dense fog, severely limiting horizontal visibility and compelling everyone to reduce speed significantly.
Safety remains paramount! Authorities have temporary closed highways until the fog is gone, including the Cairo-Alexandria and Ismailia-Suez roads in northern Egypt, leaving myriad cars stranded.
Multiple car accidents have already occurred in various parts of Cairo due to reduced visibility.
If you must travel across Cairo or on highways leading to the capital, ensure you drive cautiously, make your vehicle visible to others by using low-beam headlights and taillights.
Activate fog lights and flashers, and remain vigilant for pedestrians, particularly during rush hour when young students are commuting to school, struggling with reduced visibility as well.
Regarding the weather, Cairo, the Nile Delta, the North Coast, and northern Upper Egypt will continue to experience moderate daytime weather, so don't let a bit of mist dampen your day.
In South Sinai, home to the enchanting Sharm El Sheikh, and southern Upper Egypt, where Aswan and Luxor are located, warm weather will prevail.
Across the nation, anticipate cold nights, particularly in northern Upper Egypt and Central Sinai where extremely cold nights are expected.
Daytime temperatures in most parts of Egypt will hover in the low 20s, except for southern Upper Egypt and Sharm El Sheikh where temperatures will reach the higher 20s.
Nighttime temperatures will vary but generally range from 8 to 14 degrees nationwide.
