CAIRO - 10 December 2024: Egypt joins the world Tuesday, in celebrating the International Human Rights Day, and commemorating the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" as the first international document to preserve and protect human dignity.

Since its adoption on December 10, 1948, this declaration has had a broad and profound impact on contemporary human history, and represented a milestone in the history of human rights, and paved the way for building and developing the relevant international system, to ensure the promotion and protection of human rights, based on the recognition of the universality, comprehensiveness, interconnectedness, and inalienability or division of these rights.

In a statement marking the occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration asserted that this declaration was a turning point in the history of human rights. It added that such a declaration paved the way for building a human rights system supporting and protecting human rights.

The statement pointed out to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives on supporting the values of citizenship, equality, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

Egypt also affirms - according to Tuesday's statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - that the principles approved by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are at the heart of the axes of the "National Strategy for Human Rights", launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in September 2021, to promote human rights in their comprehensive concept through a purely national initiative, and based on Egypt's relevant constitutional and international obligations. This is the strategy that various ministries and national bodies are participating in, for the fourth year, in implementing in cooperation with civil society organizations, which are an essential and important partner in achieving development.

The positive impact of the strong political will and serious national commitment was reflected in the steady progress achieved in implementing the objectives of the National Human Rights Strategy in its four axes related to political and civil rights, economic, social and cultural rights, and the rights of women, children, youth, people with disabilities and the elderly, and in its three institutional, legislative and educational tracks, which positively reflects on all aspects of life for all without discrimination.

Finally, as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights stipulates in its first article that "all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights", the Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights will continue its efforts in coordination with the relevant national authorities to implement the National Human Rights Strategy to improve human rights conditions and provide a decent life for citizens, considering this a national duty and commitment.
