CAIRO- 7 December 2024: Egypt urged its citizens currently in Syria to exercise utmost caution amid the fierce fighting between the Syrian regime military forces and the opposition armed groups.

The Egyptians are advised to avoid areas of confrontations, follow the instructions of Syrian authorities, refrain from traveling to Syria at this time, and stay in regular contact with the Egyptian Embassy in Damascus.

The Ministry has established a crisis cell to monitor the situation of Egyptian citizens in Syria around the clock.

It calls on all Egyptians residing or present in Syria to promptly register their details with the Egyptian Embassy in Damascus so that their safety and well-being can be closely monitored, and necessary measures can be taken. For assistance, the Embassy has provided the following contact numbers:

+963 956 440 441
+963 995 488 774

The opposition armed forces, led by the Hayʼat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), launched sudden attacks against the Syrian regime forces and their allies in the cities of Idlib and Aleppo on November 27, 2024, and managed to completely control them, except in some small villages run by the Kurds. The opposition forces also managed to take other cities like Hama, Homos and the southern city of Daraa. It is reported that the opposition forces are heading to the Capital, Damascus.

In response, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s forces, with the help of the Russian airplanes, bombed places in the two cities.
