CAIRO – 5 December 2024: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli confirmed Thursday continuous political leadership oversight on the Egypt-Saudi electricity interconnection project.
Inspecting the 500kV direct current interconnection station in Badr City, Madbouli emphasized commitment to starting operations to ensure grid stability and meet anticipated high demand.
He reviewed the project’s current status, progress rates, and adherence to timelines, calling for intensifying efforts, addressing technical challenges, and ensuring timely delivery of components.
With a capacity of 3,000 MW, the Egypt-Saudi interconnection project features three high-voltage stations in the Saudi East Medina, Tabuk, and Egypt's Badr City.
It includes 1,350 kilometers of overhead lines and submarine cables, implemented by a consortium of three global companies.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat highlighted the project’s significance in optimizing generation capacities between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, leveraging differences in peak demand times, reducing fuel consumption, and achieving economic grid operations.
The minister reiterated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives for sustainable solutions to maintain grid stability and improve energy quality through renewable resources and efficient generation.
