CAIRO – 5 December 2024: Authorities announced on Thursday that a cruise ship, carrying 59 tourists, which had run aground in the Nile River near Beni Mazar town in Upper Egypt's Minya governorate, has been successfully refloated.
The governorate released a video showing the ship continuing its journey after the successful refloating operation.
The cruise ship, Crown Vision, was on a journey from the Marina of Akhenaten in Minya city heading to Beni Suef Governorate, carrying 57 Germans and 2 French nationals, Minya authorities said in a statement.
The governorate confirmed that all tourists are safe.
Governor of Minya Emad Kodwani confirmed that the ship resumed its journey after taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew.
The governor pointed out that the floating process was carried out using a tugboat specifically summoned to free the ship from the stranded location, under the close supervision of the executive and security leaderships.
The governorate stated that Nile navigation is currently operating normally without any obstacles, with continued monitoring to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
