CAIRO - 3 December 2024: The Egyptian Ministry of Interior successfully thwarted multiple attempts to smuggle significant quantities of drugs valued at approximately LE 52 million.
These operations highlight the ministry's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking networks across the country.
Authorities uncovered a smuggling network involving 10 individuals based in Dakahlia Governorate. Investigations by the General Directorate for Drug Control revealed that the group had acquired a large quantity of Captagon tablets intended for smuggling abroad.
Following coordinated legal measures, the suspects were arrested, and 32,500 Captagon pills were seized. The estimated financial value of the seized pills is around LE 40 million.
In a separate operation, three individuals were apprehended for trafficking in narcotics across South Sinai and Alexandria. The General Directorate for Drug Control, in collaboration with other security forces, monitored their activities and set up ambushes to ensure their capture.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 152.5 kilograms of hashish, valued at more than LE12 million.
These successful operations underscore the Ministry of Interior's dedication to disrupting drug trafficking networks and safeguarding society from the detrimental effects of narcotics. The ongoing efforts aim to dismantle organized crime and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens.
