Egypt’s FM holds several meetings with several foreign counterparts on humanitarian situations in Gaza

CAIRO- 2 December 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held several meetings with counterparts of different countries on the sidelines of the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza on Monday. 

 

During a meeting held by Abdelatty with UK Minister for Development at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and Minister of Equalities at the Department of Education Anneliese Dodds, said that he wants to increase economic and investment cooperation with the United Kingdom, taking into account the promising investment opportunities in Egypt.

 

Abdelatty expressed aspiration to develop relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom at various levels and to hold the second session of the Egyptian-British Partnership Council.

 

Abdelatty discussed the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the importance of pressuring Israel to provide full and unconditional access to humanitarian aid without obstacles, in addition to the importance and continuation of efforts aimed at reaching an immediate ceasefire.

 

Meanwhile,  in a separate meeting held by the foreign minister today with Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Canada Robert Oliphant, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza, Abdelatty said that the need arises to intensify diplomatic efforts to cease fire and allow humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip.

 

The meeting touched on the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Canada, where the foreign minister expressed pride in the strong partnership between the two countries in various fields, stressing the aspiration to continue enhancing cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education, and renewable energy.

 

He also expressed interest in exploring opportunities for tripartite cooperation in Africa with Canada, expressing keenness to continue coordination between the two countries to achieve regional stability and support development.

 

The top diplomat touched on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and ways to enhance international coordination to provide urgent humanitarian aid to civilians

 

Abdelatty said Monday the continued deterioration of humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip is unacceptable and contradicts the principles of international law and international humanitarian law, stressing the importance for the world community to shoulder its responsibility in confronting the crisis.

 

This came during a meeting held by the Foreign Minister Monday with Australian Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Tim Watts, on the sidelines of Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance Humanitarian Response in Gaza.

 

The meeting discussed various aspects of cooperation between Egypt and Australia, with Abdelatty expressing his aspiration to develop bilateral relations and push them to broader horizons.

 

The meeting touched on ways to enhance economic and trade relations between the two sides, as Abdelatty said there are many prospects for boosting cooperation in many domains, especially those of mining, green hydrogen, agriculture, energy and other sectors that are of high priority for the Egyptian side.

 

Regarding developments in the Middle East, the top Egyptian diplomat exchanged views with the Australian official regarding the latest developments of the crisis in Gaza. 

 

“Egypt stresses the utmost importance of an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional access of humanitarian aid to the Strip without any delays,” said Abdelatty.
