CAIRO - 2 December 2024: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, reaffirmed the agency's commitment to preserving Palestinian identity since its establishment. He emphasized UNRWA's adherence to international law and its dedication to protecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Speaking at the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Support Humanitarian Response in Gaza, Lazzarini highlighted the critical need for secure and effective conditions to sustain humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip.
He noted that UNRWA is uniquely positioned to deliver essential services, stating, "No institution can educate hundreds of thousands of children in Gaza except UNRWA."
UNRWA provides significant medical support to Palestinians, offering 60,000 medical consultations daily, amounting to half a million consultations each month. Over its 75-year history, the agency has delivered educational services to Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jordan.
