CAIRO – December 1, 2024: The heads of Egypt’s media and press regulation bodies took their oaths on Sunday before the House of Representatives in a plenary session presided over by Speaker Hanafi El-Gebali.
Khaled Abdelaziz, a communications and electronics engineer and former Minister of Youth and Sports, was sworn in as the new head of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR), succeeding Karam Gabr.
Meanwhile, engineer and experienced press leader Abdel Sadek El-Shorbagy, took the oath before parliament to continue his role as the head of the National Press Authority for the next four years, following a confidence renewal decree from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Ahmed Al-Moslemani, a veteran Egyptian journalist renowned for his news review program "First Edition," took the oath as the head of the National Media Authority (NMA).
Last week, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree restructuring the three media regulatory bodies, setting a four-year term for the new boards.
This reshuffle comes a few months after the formation of the new Cabinet under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, with 30 ministers taking their oaths before the president on July 3.
