CAIRO – 29 November 2024: Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares affirmed on Friday that his country does not sell weapons to Israel and the Middle East.
He further explained that the Middle East does not need weapons but peace.
Albares noted that no new licenses have been issued to export weapons to Israel since October 2023.
The Spanish Foreign Minister added in statements reported by al Qahera news channel, that his country does not allow ships carrying weapons heading to Israel to dock in their ports.
“We must support the Lebanese army, which is a pillar of internal stability and the full implementation of Resolution 1701,” Spanish Foreign Minister said.
He stressed that UNRWA is an indispensable factor in providing humanitarian aid to two million residents of Gaza.
On Tuesday, the Israeli Cabinet approved the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in televised statements that Israel is committed to returning all detainees in the Gaza Strip. Adding “that the war will not end until all its goals are achieved, including returning the residents of the north to their homes."
Netanyahu said that there is a need to undermine the capabilities of the Lebanese Hezbollah, which have expanded over decades. He stressed that “if the Lebanese Hezbollah decides to return to attacks, we will return to respond to it, and we will prevent any efforts by Hezbollah to arm itself in the future.”
Egypt welcomed the commencement of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon on Wednesday, viewing this development as a critical step towards initiating a phase of de-escalation in the region.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt underscored the significance of this agreement as a precursor to halting Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for over a year.
Egypt emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring unimpeded access for humanitarian aid amidst the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the enclave, and putting a stop to unjustified Israeli transgressions in the West Bank.
