CAIRO – 28 November 2024: Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, witnessed on Thursday the raising of the Egyptian flag on the Wadi El Arish vessel, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport’s National Navigation Company (NNC), in the presence of Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport.
He also witnessed the launch of the first trips of the Egyptian-Italian roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) cargo line between the ports of Damietta and Trieste, which aims to facilitate the export of agricultural products to European markets at a high speed.
Wadi El Arish vessel has a total capacity of 82 thousand tons, a length of 229 meters, a width of 32.26 meters and a draft of 14.5 meters.
Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir explained during the ceremony that the ship ‘Wadi El Arish’ is the ‘jewel’ of the national commercial fleet, as it was built according to the latest technologies in terms of hull design to reduce fuel consumption, in addition to the fact that the main machine is from the manufacturer MAN B&W.
The ship is also equipped with the latest navigation systems, as well as its compliance with all international environmental requirements, which qualifies it to achieve the best possible operation for this type of ship.
The Prime Minister and his companions entered the ship's command room, which is equipped with the latest capabilities and electronic navigation maps, which provide a higher margin of safety, and listened to an explanation about the command room equipment, and climbed to the highest point of the ship.
The Minister of Industry and Transport stressed that the addition of the ship ‘Wadi El Arish’ to the fleet of the National Navigation Company is one of the fruits of the ongoing strategy adopted by the Ministry of Transport to modernize and develop the company's fleet and increase the number of its units to reach 14 ships with a total tonnage of more than one million tons and a transport capacity of 10 million tons annually to secure the transport of strategic goods imported to Egypt.
During a press conference at Damietta Port, PM Madbouly, said that the launch of the first ship on the Ro-Ro line between the ports of Damietta and Trieste in Italy transports Egyptian exports to Europe in record time.
The Prime Minister added that the Industry Forum and Exhibition included a large number of major industrial companies, explaining that, “Despite all the challenges, Egypt is on the right track.”
He explained that the Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal is part of the major expansion in Damietta Port.
Egypt’s Prime Minister also shed light on the US dollar price saying that there is no restriction on the movement of the dollar and that the country is committed to a flexible exchange rate, adding, ‘Let's not get afraid if we find increases in the rate. The market is a matter of supply and demand.’
