CAIRO - 26 November 2024: Plans have been set to establish a railway line connecting Abu Simbel high-speed electric train station to Wadi Halfa in Sudan, Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir said Tuesday.
Egypt is connected to Sudan through three land transport axes, the first axis Toshka-Arqin lies west of the Nile River over 100 kilometers, Qastal-Wadi Halfa east of the Nile stretches over of 35 kilometers, and the third axis on the Red Sea coast extends from Halayeb Port to Port Sudan spanning 280 kilometers.
The Minister added that in addition to three land ports on the Egyptian-Sudanese border, namely Qastal, Arqin, and Ras Hadarba, there is a plan to establish logistics zones in Qastal and Arqin to serve trade exchange between the two countries.
Another navigational route from Aswan in Egypt to Wadi Halfa in Sudan via Lake Nasser is also planned to be put to use as the Egyptian Ministry of Transport is establishing a new river dock at Wadi Halfa Port in Sudan.
