CAIRO – 25 November 2024: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Aati, participated Monday, in a session entitled ‘Dialogue for Peace’ at the Rome Mediterranean Dialogues Forum.
During his participation, Abdel Aati reviewed Egypt's mediation efforts with regional and international partners to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stressing the catastrophic conditions suffered by the residents of the Strip as a result of the Israeli aggression, the obstruction of humanitarian aid access, and the policy of starvation.
He also highlighted Egypt's complete rejection of the displacement of Palestinians outside their lands.
Regarding the future of the Gaza Strip, Abdel Aati stressed the need to enable the Palestinian Authority to restore its status in the Gaza Strip, especially with regard to humanitarian activities, and warned against any efforts to separate the Gaza Strip from the rest of the Palestinian territories.
The Foreign Minister also reviewed Egypt's supportive stance towards Lebanon on the political and humanitarian levels, expressing Egypt's complete rejection of any infringement on Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and respect for the Lebanese people's desire to choose their president without foreign interference. He also discussed Egyptian efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.
Minister Abdel Aati also discussed developments in the Red Sea, stressing the need to adopt a comprehensive approach that includes several elements, including ending the war in Gaza and working to reduce escalation, pointing to the repercussions on the Egyptian economy due to tension in the Red Sea.
At the end of the session, His Abdel Aati stressed that military options have proven to be unsuccessful and do not achieve peace and stability in the region, and that diplomatic solutions are indispensable, and stressed the need to address the roots of instability in the region, which is ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
