CAIRO – 25 November 2024: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Badr Abdel Aty, met with Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib, on Monday during the Rome MED Dialogues Forum.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting centered on developments in Lebanon and ongoing negotiations to achieve a ceasefire. Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for empowering Lebanon’s national institutions, especially the Lebanese Army, while emphasizing the importance of implementing all aspects of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by all parties.
Minister Abdel Aty highlighted Egypt’s commitment to supporting Lebanon during its critical juncture. He noted the recent delivery of 21 tons of food and essential supplies on November 13 to aid displaced individuals. This gesture underscores Egypt’s consistent efforts to alleviate the humanitarian challenges facing Lebanon.
The minister stressed Egypt’s firm stance advocating for a consensual election of a Lebanese president, free from external influence, to resolve the prolonged presidential vacancy. He affirmed Egypt’s active role in bilateral discussions and through the Quintet Committee on Lebanon to facilitate progress on this issue.
This meeting reflects Egypt’s dedication to promoting stability, fostering Lebanese unity, and addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
