CAIRO- 24 November 2024: Egypt has announced a project funded by a World Bank loan aimed at improving air quality and noise protection. The initiative includes the procurement of 180 electric public transport buses.
Engineer Reem Abdel Rahman, Head of the Central Administration for Air Quality and Noise Protection at the Ministry of Environment, revealed that a tender is currently open for the purchase of these buses.
This announcement was made during a discussion by the Energy and Environment Committee of the House of Representatives, chaired by Representative Talat El-Sweedy, last week. The session focused on the government’s efforts to promote electric vehicles, including raising awareness of their environmental benefits.
The committee also discussed establishing Egyptian standards for charging stations that would be compatible with electric vehicles authorized for use and registration in the country.
The expanded meeting included representatives from the Ministries of Electricity, Industry, Military Production, Transport, Investment, and Environment, as well as officials from the Electricity Regulatory Authority and the Consumer Protection Agency. The session concluded with several important recommendations, and further discussions are expected to follow.
