CAIRO – 24 November 2024: Early risers hustling off to schools, universities, and workplaces in Cairo were greeted with light to moderate rain, signaling a shift in temperatures across Egypt as winter eagerly nudges autumn off the stage a tad early.

Nationwide, temperatures are taking a gentle dive by 4-5 degrees, with Cairo expecting a 22 degrees Celsius today, poised to dip even further to 20-21 degrees later this week.

LOW-PRESSURE SYSTEM

Throughout the day, we anticipate light to moderate rain making its way across the North Coast, Central Sinai, Suez Canal cities, Nile Delta, Greater Cairo, and northern Upper Egypt.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) reports a low-pressure system parked over the Mediterranean Sea, painting the skies with low and medium clouds in the north, accompanied by a mix of rainfall intensities.

Winds are picking up their pace nationwide, ushering in a chillier atmosphere and the occasional swirl of sand and dust in exposed areas, especially in South Sinai and the southern regions.

NAVIGATION DISRUPTED

Additionally, brace for disruptions in maritime activities in the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, and Suez Gulf, with waves in the Mediterranean swelling to 4-6 meters, propelled by brisk winds clocking speeds of 60-85 km/hour.

The Red Sea Ports Authority announced the closure of Hurghada Maritime Port as wind intensity reached 34 knots from the southwest, with waves reaching 3-4 meters high and sea conditions extremely rough.

The authority confirmed the suspension of all maritime activities for small and large vessels to ensure everyone’s safety.

Keep an eye out for fleeting rain chances along the north coast, northern Nile Delta, and the Red Sea mountains on Monday and Tuesday.

TEMPS AHEAD

For temperatures, the north coast is expected to wear the chilliest crown this week, boasting highs of 20-21 degrees.

Meanwhile, southern Upper Egypt, where Luxor and Aswan reside, is gearing up for a significant drop from 29 to around 23 in the upcoming days. Northern Upper Egypt will also experience a gentle cool-down to 20-22 degrees throughout the week.

As rain graces our forecasts, remember to drive carefully and stay tuned for updates.
