CAIRO – 22 November 2024: Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez lauded Egypt’s crucial role in reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and averting escalation across the region during a phone call with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Friday.

Sánchez emphasized Egypt’s efforts to foster stability in the Middle East and combating terrorism and extremism both regionally and globally, Egyptian Presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy said in a statement.

The Spanish prime minister also underlined Egypt's efforts in preventing the regional conflict from escalating into a full-scale war while ensuring the delivery of essential humanitarian aid.

Sisi, in turn, praised Spain's just stance on the Palestinian cause, particularly since the onset of the war in the Gaza Strip.

During the call, Sisi and Sánchez underscored the significance of advancing Egyptian-Spanish relations, especially in terms of economic collaboration and investments.

They expressed keenness on increasing Spanish companies' participation in development projects in Egypt, promoting industry localization, and enhancing mutual manufacturing efforts.

In the wake of the recent devastating floods in southeastern Spain, Sisi reiterated Egypt's solidarity with the Spanish government and its people in addressing the aftermath of the floods.

The president extended his wishes for the safety and well-being of Spain and its friendly people.

In late October 2024, severe rainfall and flash floods struck eastern and southern Spain, resulting in the tragic loss of over 220 lives, with several individuals still reported missing.
