CAIRO - 21 November 2024: The Supreme Council for Media, headed by journalist Karam Gabr, set five recommendations to confront the spread of false news.

This took place during the launch conference of the initiative "The role of the internal organization of the media in confronting rumors and the spread of false news."

et highlights in the below lines the 5 recommendations:

1- Raising awareness among the public on how to act when discovering a rumor or false news, and the role of the Supreme Council for Media in following up and taking measures in this regard in cooperation with the competent authorities.

2- Maximizing the concept of social media security to protect society from rumors, because rumors in the recent period have led to crimes that have affected many sectors of society, and media security is important to secure families and youth who consume the most means of communication from rumors and fake news.

3- Predicting rumors and rumor seasons, and dealing with them early by pumping the largest amount of information about that period, as there are seasons in which rumors spread, such as the beginning of schools and the harvest of some agricultural crops and winter diseases, so there must be a unit to predict rumors.

4- A specialized platform for verifying information and images and searching for false news. It is possible to conduct training in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications for media professionals and official spokesmen on how to respond to rumors and false news.

5- Alerting youth and families to the dangers of spreading false news and rumors without verifying their source.
