CAIRO- 20 November 2024: The Palestinian presidency condemned, on Wednesday, the use of the veto by the United States of America in the UN Security Council to prevent the adoption of a resolution calling for a ceasefire and an end to the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.

The presidency confirmed in a press statement that the US administration's use of the veto for the fourth time encourages the Israeli occupation to continue its crimes against the Palestinian people and the brotherly Lebanese people, and defies all international legitimacy and international law resolutions.

The presidency called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council and its member states, to assume their responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, by working immediately to stop the ongoing aggression, the humanitarian catastrophe, and the famine that our people are facing in the Gaza Strip.

The United States vetoed on Wednesday a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The US representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas, considered that an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza means recognizing Hamas's continued presence in the Strip.

The draft resolution addressed several issues related to the release of detainees, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces.

All members of the Security Council voted in favor of the draft resolution proposed for a ceasefire in Gaza except the United States.
